BSR: The Journey to 50 Million Safe Work Hours

The talk was attended by Mr. Cao Tuan Si – Director of Dung Quat Refinery, leaders of the HSEDepartment, representatives from various departments, contractors, and nearly 300 contractor employees currently working at Dung Quat Refinery. This event is part of a regular program aimed at raising awareness and reinforcing safety compliance among all employees. It also holds special significance as part of the celebrations for BSR achieving 50 million safe working hourswithno lost-time injuries.

At the talk, representatives from the HSEDepartment emphasized the importance of building and maintaining a strong safety culture, where strict compliance with procedures, workplace discipline, and doing things right from the start are considered key factors. Safety culture is not just an individual responsibility but a collective commitment to protecting oneself, colleagues, and company assets.

Using real-life examples, the department analyzed the causes of unsafe behaviors, risk conditions, and past incidents,helping workers gain a deeper understanding of the consequences of violating procedures, working carelessly, or failing to follow safety regulations. Through this session, workers at the refinery became more aware of the importance of proper use of personal protective equipment, following procedures for working at heights and in confined spaces, and maintaining industrial hygiene standards.

BSR commended workers for their active participation in discussions, experience sharing, and correctly answering questions related to the program’s content.

As a result, each individual has become more aware of their responsibility in every small action—from complying with work permit (PTW) regulations, managing changes, and following procedures/guidelines toidentifying potential hazards and suggesting risk prevention measures. Beyond sharing safety knowledge and skills, the safety culture talk also served as a platform for employees and contractors to exchange real-life experiences and valuable lessons gained while working at Dung Quat Refinery.

The milestone of 50 million safe working hours is a source of pride and a testament to the strong sense of responsibility and high level of discipline across BSR's entire system in security, safety, and environmental protection.
